Bio

Denise Palmieri, a performance artist and curator currently based in Vienna, has a Master’s degree in Fine and Performing Arts from the Akademie of Fine Arts Vienna. In her work as a performance artist, Palmieri explores the connection between experience and consciousness, examining the ritualistic and political aspects of the body and voice, while also challenging traditional approaches to knowledge production. She has had the opportunity to showcase her work on prestigious stages such as TQW, Brut, and Tanzhaus Zürich.

In 2020, Palmieri became co-president of the Austrian Association of Women Artists (VBKÖ), where she focuses on fostering a sense of artistic community among the members. In her role as a curator, she addresses the themes of the “politics of care” across diverse disciplines. Her responsibilities involve fostering an inclusive artistic community among queer-feminist artists.

One of her curatorial projects is the 2022 festival “Vivências – Between Care & Artistic Practices,” which she co-curated with Marissa Lôbo. This interdisciplinary festival explores the politics of care and hospitality from various perspectives and is a project by kültür gemma!.

Starting in 2023, Palmieri has also taken on the role of co-curator of the festival WIENWOCHE. This festival aims to promote socio-political and cultural diversity among artistic, socio-cultural, and civil society participants, with a particular focus on reclaiming urban space.

In addition to her artistic and curatorial work, Palmieri has given lectures on Gender Studies at the Akademie of Fine Arts Vienna and Gender Affairs at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
